Der Seitenflügel war nicht nur ein Veranstaltungskalender, sondern bietet heute einen einmaligen Querschnitt fotografischen Schaffens zwischen Mauerfall und Jahrtausendwende. Christine Kisorsy stellt ausgewählte Motive vor und Bezüge her zu den Kulturorten im Prenzlauer Berg der 1990er Jahre, den Clubs und den Orten der queeren Community.

A new form of club culture emerged in Berlin in the 90s conjoining music, light and video art. Picture worlds emerged that were as transient as a night of dancing. Photographer Christine Kisorsy was there and captured it, and now those long-vanished clubs are back in a night-time projection show.

Around 14 million Italians left their homeland between 1861 and 1914 in search of better living and working conditions. One destination was the growing metropolis of Berlin, where their settlement was concentrated in Prenzlauer Berg. With their special crafts and professions, they shaped the district for decades.

The Pankow Museum holds a treasure trove that has gone undiscovered - until now. The "Seitenflügel" (Side Wings) displayed photographic images with announcements of upcoming events as posters for every month from 1992 to 1997. Now, for the first time, all 67 motifs are being shown, and interviews with selected photographers from the series let us in behind the scenes of their work. The exhibition’s narrative also includes views of locations from the events section of the ‘Seitenflügel’ and of spaces that were part of the Freie Szene (independent scene), club culture and the queer community. Accompanying texts take us back to the Prenzlauer Berg of the 1990s.
