Opened: in 1906 as the Royal Construction and Transport Museum
Re-opened: in 1996 conversion by the architect Josef Kleihues to become the Museum für Gegenwart, museum for contemporary art

What to see: Painting, sculpture, installations, film and video works from the 1960s to the present, including works by Joseph Beuys, Anselm Kiefer, Bruce Nauman, Dan Flavin, Mona Hatoum and Gregor Schneider

Christina Quarles

The first institutional solo exhibition of Christina Quarles in Germany shows an installation of gauze panels. The formal language of Quarles’ paintings explores the experience of living in a racialized, queer body. Her figures contend with boundaries of identity, as they intervene with complex patterns and planes.

Eva Fàbregas

Eva Fàbregas takes over the Historical hall with a monumental installation. The artist's largest solo exhibition to date expands the boundaries of sculpture, inviting visitors to a sensual, spatial experience. Biomorphous sculptures transform the museum's railway station architecture into an organically grown space.
